OLEKSANDR LYSENKO: 40 YEARS OF DEVOTION TO CLIO

Abstract

The bio-historiographical article is dedicated to the renowned Ukrainian historian, Doctor of History, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Head of the Department of Military-Historical Studies at the Institute of History of Ukraine, NASU, Oleksandr Yevhenovych Lysenko. It is published on the occasion of his 70th birthday and the 40th anniversary of his scholarly career. The article outlines the main milestones of the scholar’s life, with emphasis on those biographical facts that contributed to the genesis and development of his academic creativity. The article provides a comprehensive historiographical overview of his diverse and multi-genre scholarly output, represented primarily by studies on the social aspects of the history of the Second World War, as well as works in military anthropology and historiosophy. It reveals his comprehensive activities in producing documentary and reference editions. The article highlights Lysenko’s significant achievements as a scientific manager, whose tireless organizational work ensured the substantial progress of the academic department he headed. The contribution of the honoured scholar to modern higher education and the training of scientific personnel is highlighted, and the place of his scientific school in the modern academic environment is revealed. The article concludes that Oleksandr Lysenko is an outstanding figure in modern Ukrainian historiography, a talented organizer of the nation’s scholarly life, a respected educator, an active public figure, and a devoted patriot of Ukraine. It is noted that the proposed study does not exhaust this personalist topic and leaves a vast epistemological field for  researchers.
