MAKSYM SlAVINSKY ABOUT EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL FACTORS OF THE TURKISH REPUBLIK DEVELOPMENT IN 1923 – 1933

Abstract

The article is devoted to the perception of the development of the Turkish Republic during the first ten years of its building (1923–1933) by the well-known Ukrainian public-political, state and cultural-educational figure M. A. Slavinsky (1868-1945).

The research is based on the critical analysis of Turkish subjects of M. Slavinsky’s international reviews in the magazine “Tryzub” for 1928–1933. The research principles of historicism, scientific objectivity and systematicity contributed to revealing the peculiarities of M. Slavinsky’s coverage of the Turkish Republic, the figure of its first president M. Kemal.

The author of the article notes that the Turkish Republic became one of the priority objects in M. Slavinsky's international reviews in the second half of the 1920s - early 1930s, the attention to which was explained by the need to study the countries with which independent Ukraine was supposed to establish relations.

Slavinsky's reviews draw attention to the most important internal and external aspects of Turkey's development and their interrelationships. M. Slavinsky considered ensuring the country's peaceful course in foreign policy a prerequisite for the success of deep internal reforms, from which he singles out changes in the sphere of politics (the liquidation of the sultanate and the proclamation of the republic, the rejection of the caliphate and the course towards the development of secular statehood, reforms in the system of governance), economy, culture and people's life, ensuring the equality of Turkish women, etc. M. Slavinsky positively assesses the ten-year development of the Turkish Republic, linking it with the pragmatic political course of its president M. Kemal, aimed at the Europeanization of the country.
