Baltic-Black Sea cooperation has a long history and includes several aspects (strategic, military-political, economic, cultural, etc.). The article analyzes the fuel and transport aspect of cooperation, which representatives of business circles of Ukrainian and Baltic lands tried to deepen at the beginning of the 20th century. Entrepreneurs and industrialists of Kharkiv, Dnipro, Ekaterinoslav and Riga, as well as many other cities and localities, were unanimous in the mutual benefit of such cooperation. In their administrative materials used in this study, the Riga Stock Exchange Committee, the Ekaterinoslav City Council, the Association of Azov-Black Sea Shipowners or the Donetsk-Dnieper Mining Industry Association cited numerous advantages of enhanced economic cooperation. The eloquent examples given by entrepreneurs of the past testify to the complementary nature of the economies of Ukraine and the Baltic countries, and therefore the natural formation of mutually beneficial partnerships with a long-term perspective.
The article focuses on the fuel market and transport projects as determinants for large-scale economic development; other possible areas of economic interaction are only tangentially mentioned. The conclusion is made about the significant level of economic benefits of transport and economic cooperation and its currently underutilized potential.
